Raj Chetty, real-world economics, and big data

今年のジョン・ベイツ・クラーク賞を受賞したRaj Chetty のNY Times のショートインタビュー

I think a lot of what I do is inspired by the real world – reading the newspaper, thinking about what people are talking about and experiencing. Those tend to be broad social and economic questions. How can we improve the education system? How can we reduce inequality of opportunity? They also tend to be budget issues, or questions about pension systems, retirement savings and so forth. I’m motivated by practical questions. And then I try to find a rigorous, data-based and mathematical way to approach those questions.
